🎆 Keep Pets Safe This 4th of July: Safety Tips from Telford Fire Company

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks and festivities, the Telford Fire Company would like to remind residents to take extra precautions—not just for themselves, but for their pets. While fireworks are fun for people, they can be frightening and even dangerous for animals.

According to the ASPCA, 1 in 5 pets goes missing after being scared by loud noises like fireworks. That’s why we’re sharing these important safety tips to help protect your furry family members this holiday season.

🐾 Pet Firework Safety Tips

1. Never allow pets near fireworks
Even unlit fireworks or sparkler debris can cause burns or other injuries if ingested or stepped on.

2. Keep pets indoors and secure
Create a safe, quiet space inside your home while fireworks are going off. Close windows and blinds and play calming music or white noise to help reduce anxiety.

3. Ensure ID tags and microchips are up to date
In case your pet does escape, having an accurate ID tag and registered microchip greatly increases the chances of being reunited.

4. Keep a current photo of your pet handy
If your pet goes missing, you’ll have a photo ready to share with neighbors and local shelters.

5. Talk to your vet about anxiety
If your pet has a history of being frightened by loud noises, your veterinarian may recommend calming aids or medication.

📞 In Case of Emergency

If your pet ingests fireworks or experiences a medical emergency, contact your vet immediately or reach out to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.
