Telford Fire Company Completes Aerial Ladder Testing on Ladder 75

Telford, PA – July 15, 2025 — The Telford Fire Company proudly announces the successful completion of its aerial ladder testing on Ladder 75, conducted on July 14, 2025. This vital evaluation ensures that our ladder truck and its aerial components are fully operational, safe, and compliant with industry standards — maintaining readiness to serve our community when every second counts. In addition to the aerial ladder, all ground ladders on each truck were also tested successfully.

What Is Aerial Ladder Testing?

Aerial ladder testing is a rigorous inspection and performance evaluation required annually for fire apparatus equipped with aerial devices — such as ladder trucks. The testing is performed by certified third-party professionals who adhere to standards set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1911). These guidelines dictate the care, maintenance, inspection, and testing of fire department vehicles and their components.

What Does the Test Involve?

The aerial ladder test is both visual and mechanical in nature. It includes:

  • Structural Inspection: A thorough check for signs of wear, cracks, corrosion, or other damage on the ladder sections and welds.

  • Operational Test: Evaluation of ladder movement in all directions — extending, retracting, rotating, and elevating — to ensure proper hydraulic and mechanical function.

  • Load Testing: The ladder is subjected to a static load, often simulating a heavy rescue operation, to verify it can safely support firefighters, equipment, and rescued persons at height.

  • Stability and Safety Systems Check: Ensures all controls, interlocks, and safety features are functioning correctly.

  • Hydraulic and Electrical System Inspection: Checks for leaks, performance under pressure, and the functionality of sensors and electrical systems that monitor the ladder’s status.

Commitment to Excellence

“Ladder 75 is one of the most critical pieces of apparatus in our fleet,” said Telford Fire Company Engineer Eamon O’Reilly. “Whether it’s accessing a burning roof, conducting a high-angle rescue, or protecting firefighters during elevated operations, the aerial must be reliable. These annual tests give us — and the community — the confidence that our equipment is safe and ready.”

The Telford Fire Company views annual ladder testing not as a formality, but as a vital piece of its overall commitment to safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

As always, we thank the community for your ongoing support and invite you to follow us on social media or stop by the firehouse to learn more about our apparatus and the work our volunteers do each day to keep Telford safe.
