⚠️ URGENT Safety Alert: HydroTech Hose Recall
What You Need to Know
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall affecting approximately 3.6 million HydroTech 5/8‑inch Expandable Burst‑Proof Hoses sold nationwide between January 2021 and April 2025
Key concerns:
-
The hoses can unexpectedly rupture mid‑use if the internal plastic strain relief breaks or unthreads, which poses a risk of impact injury and temporary hearing loss from the loud burst
-
At least 222 burst incidents have been reported to date, resulting in 29 injuries, ranging from sprains and a bone bruise to temporary hearing impairment
Products Covered
The recall applies to HydroTech hoses manufactured on or before August 31, 2024, sold in lengths including 25 ft (blue), 50 ft (green), 60 ft (gray “Auto‑Care” kit), 75 ft (orange), 100 ft (yellow), and 200 ft (red)
The date‑code marking is located under the rubber washer at the spigot end. Included codes are no marking or codes ending in ‑211, ‑212, ‑213, ‑214, ‑221… ‑243
Note: Codes ending in ‑244, ‑251, ‑252, ‑253 and HydroTech “Pro Series” or “FLAT JACKET™” hoses are not part of the recall
Safety Recommendation for Our Community
-
Stop using any HydroTech 5/8‑inch expandable burst‑proof hose immediately if it may be subject to the recall.
-
If purchased from Ace Hardware, Do It Best, Home Depot, or Walmart, you may return the hose to the store with receipt for a full refund
-
Purchased elsewhere? Cut off the regulator end—including the date‑code area—and submit it via the HydroTech recall portal, with a photograph that shows your initials and submission date in permanent marker; Winston Products will issue a refund
Why This Matters to First Responders
Although these hoses were marketed for garden and home use, the fitness-for-purpose issue is significant. In emergency settings or during drills, unexpected hose failure can pose serious risks—not just to hearing but to general safety and readiness.
