Volunteer Opportunities​

Active Firefighter

Firefighters have a variety of jobs such as manning attack lines, water supply, Hazmat operations, car accidents, medical incidents, etc.

Experience

  • No experience is necessary, all training will be provided/paid for by Telford Fire Company.
  • Firefighter 1/Hazmat Operations and Awareness (Must be enrolled in classes within one year of membership)

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old at the time of completion of a membership application.
  • Background check required.
  1. Complete the “Proposition for Active Membership” application packet. Make sure to include a photocopied driver’s license (front and back).
  2. Complete the “Authorization to Release Information” form. The information on this form will be used by the Telford Fire Company to submit a criminal background check on an applicant. (NOTE: the presence of a criminal background does not necessarily disqualify you from membership in the company)
  3. Complete the “Physical Examination” form. This form must be signed by a physician stating that the applicant is physically able to perform firefighting duties and essential job functions. The cost of the physical can be reimbursed by the Telford Fire Company.
  4. The applicant must apply for a Child Abuse History Clearance. This can be completed online, at no cost, by going to www.compass.state.pa.us/CWIS/Public/Home. From there click on “Create Individual Account, create your account, and then follow the prompts to get your child abuse clearance. (NOTE: When applying for your clearance be sure to put in that it is for a volunteer organization.)

Once completed, your approved clearance can be printed out and handed in along with the rest of the forms required for membership.

Next, you will have an interview will be scheduled and conducted. After the interview, at the next business meeting, the application will be presented to the members for approval.

Once approved, you will be a probationary member for at least 6 months, when at that time the members will again vote for permanent membership. For Fire Police, you will then be sworn in by the Mayor of Telford.

Fire Police

Fire Police officers assist the fire companies by providing traffic control at the scene of an emergency and events. Fire Police may be called out to assist other local organizations. Experience
  • Basic Fire Police
  • No experience necessary, all training will be provided/paid for by Telford Fire Company

Junior Firefighter

Junior Firefighters have restricted abilities. Junior Firefighters assist the Fire Company with various tasks on the fire grounds and at emergency scenes. 

Experience
No experience necessary, all training will be provided/paid for by Telford Fire Company

Requirements
Must be at LEAST 16 years old at the time completion of an application for membership, Background check required

  1. Complete the “Application for Junior Membership” application packet. Make sure to include a photocopied drivers license (front and back). If you do not have a drivers license then only the application and other forms are required.
  2. Attach a photocopy (front and back) of your working papers from the school district that you are currently attending. If you do not have working papers you must obtain them from your school district.
  3. Complete the “Physical Examination” form. This form must be signed by a physician stating that the applicant is physically able to perform firefighting duties and essential job functions. The cost of the physical can be reimbursed by the Telford Fire Company.
  4. The applicant must apply for a Child Abuse History Clearance. This can be completed online, at no cost, by going to www.compass.state.pa.us/CWIS/Public/Home. Associate Membership

Associate Membership is a non-firefighting role.  Associate Members assist the FD in a multitude of ways by assisting with events and fundraisers while also being able to serve in various administrative roles and committees.

Applicant MUST live in or work in the coverage area of the TELFORD VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY, if you are not sure if you live within our coverage zone please contact us.

Applicants MUST consent to a background check, and an investigation committee will evaluate his/her application and background information.
